The Unforgiveable Sin

This morning, a co-worker and prayer buddy of mine mentioned that ABC news did a story about an atheist who is on a campaign to get people to perform the unforgivable sin, which is to publicly deny (blaspheme) the holy spirit. The story is here.

I hate to admit it but I didn't even know that there was such a thing as an unpardonable sin. I tried to argue with my co-worker against the idea, but it's pretty clearly stated in the Bible in Mark 3:29 and Luke 12:10. I even checked multiple versions of the Bible to make sure it wasn't an issue with translation.

So the idea of this website is that these people are so confident in the non-existence of God that they are willing to completely throw away their chances of ever getting to heaven. So far about 800 people have actually jumped off of that eternal bridge.

If you would be willing to, please consider praying for anyone who is considering participating in what is essentially an act of eternal suicide. My hope is that some of the people who are considering this action get an undeniable feeling that it is wrong. Then perhaps they will wonder where that feeling is coming from, seek to find the source of that feeling, and eventually turn to God, instead of against Him.

Reading this blog made my heart break. Thinking of all the confused people out there they may do this thinking it is a joke. Plus the amount of enegry somebody has put into this to make it happen. Not to mention that a major news station has aired a report on it and bringing attention to it. It is so sad.

This whole thing reminds me of the World News Network discribed in The Left Behind Series.

However I know that denying God is an unforgivable sin, I never really thought about it to much...but did Peter condem himself to hell, when he denied Jesus 3 times?

Remember folks, there are people just as passionate about their beliefs (i.e., atheism) as you are about yours. You describe them as "confused" and they often consider christians "wack jobs".

Just some food for thought...

It is unfathomable how people can deny there is a Creator. Open your eyes people!

So anonymous, are all Christians 'wack jobs'?

From first anonymous to second anonymous:

By confused people I was not refering to the people that are passionate about their beliefs. When I was refering to confused I was talking about those people who are CONFUSED and do not know what they believe. If you could read you would obviously realize that a person believing passionately in this would not do it as a joke. Therefore the term "confused" could not be describing some that is "passionate"

As for us being called "wack jobs" it sometimes comes with the name Christian. God told us that we would be persecuted and mocked. I think it happens because people who for whatever reason do not want to believe get uncomfrotable when Christianity starts making sense, so to deal with they call us names. It is to help them rationalize in their mind why they do not want to be Christian.

Truly educated people, at least in a society that allows free-thinking (such as the U.S.), should be able to accept the fact that we are not all going to hold the same beliefs. Also, in our modern day society, it doesn't really seem like christians are being persecuted. The religious right is currently running our country.

This is an interesting post. I think Mark 3:24 might be a wrong reference. If it's right, it doesn't make sense to me.

I would caution against all the agression I see in these comments. Really, if you are a believer, I don't think you will win someone to Christ by antagonizing them.

It should be Mark 3:29, not 24. I corrected it. Thanks for all of your comments everyone!
